Financing a used car

There are differences between a loan specifically for a car and an ordinary personal loan.

If you take an agreement which is secured against your car you have more protection as a consumer. However, if you decided to change your car again before the agreement has ended you would have to settle the agreement in full. (This isn't a problem providing you can sell your car at a price that will at least cover the outstanding finance settlement figure).

On an unsecured loan, there is less protection as a consumer but you have the option to sell your at any time without having to settle the finance and start again.

As for gap insurance, there are generally two types. Finance Gap - which pays the difference between what your motor insurance company pay you (if your car is written off) and the amount outstanding on your finance agreement. You can only have this if your finance is secured against the vehicle - ie NOT a personal loan!

The second type is like a return to invoice gap. I purchased this recently for a Nissan I bought. If my car is written off (theft, fire, stolen etc) it will pay the difference between what my motor insurance offer me and what I originally paid for my car (the full invoice price). There are lots of companies that offer this on the web but I chose www.autosolution.us as not only were their prices the best that I found but the policy offered excellent terms.
